Swimming and Eating With Fish in Café Mermania

So after mag The Dessert Museum, humanash naman kami sa Café Mermania bago umuwi. Pangarap kasi ni Raquel and it has been a long overdue trip. Natupad na ang pangalawang pangarap ni Arra at 'yung sa akin, 'yung kanya, wala pa rin. Ergo, this blog and experience is about fulfilling Raquel's dreams. Pangarap pala niyang maging sirena. (We didn't know she dreams of being a mermaid.)

There are a lot of themed food places, they are like mushrooms! You see one yesterday, then you'd see again one or two the next two days. The power of social media and millennials plus Gen Z! Oops, do not be so entitled, let us not be.

But just like what Kat said from The Bold Type, maybe these food places start to go viral because, they start conversations online. And yes, they fuckin' do. One post, hundred comments. Ang dami ko na namang hanash, ito na ang blog at rating ng Café Mermania. Pak ba o WaPak?

How to get there:
Café Mermania is in Marikina. If you are coming from Cubao, ride a jeep going to Molave, NGI, Modesta, or Parang. Tell the driver to drop you off at Meralco, or Jollibee Meralco, or 7 Eleven Meralco. Those are your landmarks. From 7 Eleven, cross the street going to Meralco then walk on the same direction. Café Mermania is on the left. So just cross the street again. If you alight in Jollibee, just cross the street, on the lane where Meralco is, not the 7 Eleven one, and walk and walk until you reach Café Mermania. It's the same route and jeepneys you gotta ride when you are coming from Bayan Marikina Palengke, from the big clock. (This info is for those coming from Antipolo and others. Tama ba ako? Wala na naman akong kwentang travel blogger. HAHAH! Maliligaw kayo sa akin.)

Price range:

PHP 500.00 for two people, unless you wanna splurge. Ours was around PHP800.00, if I am not mistaken? No service charge.

Their menu

Operating hours: 12:00 noon - 9:00 P.M. as per their FB page and they are closed on Mondays. Again, this is not a paid post for Café Mermania. Haha!

They got some aesthetics, like any themed diner. The photos on their Facebook page make their place spacious but it was just really small. BUT! It wasn't cramped or anything. You can actually lie down at the middle of the mermaid room. Haha! What I mean is, it looks smaller than in photos.

Café Mermania doesn't serve straws unless requested. I believe that's a good thing. Their café does not only have an under the sea theme but they also advocate to save our oceans and other bodies of water! I guess this makes the difference from other cafés. Personally, as much as I do not want to use straws, some diners place them automatically, if you forget to tell them you don't want them. If you don't use them, it will still be the same for you can't return it, right? I'm glad Café Mermania is doing this. Not just for any front. Para rito, five over five pak points! Haha!

Oh. You can't enter with your shoes on inside the mermaid room. You gotta wear your fish slippers! I believe they are cleaned every night as the store closes. We saw the crew cleaning the rack and the slippers as we left.

We ordered pasta and some sides. I liked the carbonara. It wasn't too creamy, it wasn't too lousy, it was just right. The three of us shared the same thought. Raquel ordered the lasagna. I added for some fries. I wasn't really planning to buy the pasta for I was wanting to eat rice for dinner but their buffalo wings was spicy, they said, and I already had chicken for lunch that day. But I felt hungry. Haha!

Our meals + house blended iced tea!

The fries was topped with barbecue sauce, cheese, and bacon. The barbecue sauce was spicy for me so for those with normal taste buds, ahem, like Arra and Raquel, well, it wasn't spicy.

The Mango crepe was actually good. They got sweet Mangoes. Ice cream na lang ang kulang. Haha! As you can see on the photo, they got Mango slices on the side, but they also have smaller slices inside.

The food was good. I'd rate it with four pak points, that includes the price.

And so for the main event, you need to avail PHP200.00 and up in order to have access to the mermaid room where they have props like the mermaid tail, the flower crown, and some stuffed animals. Our bill was more than that so all of us got the chance to be a mermaid! Are you ready for me it? Well, you gotta be. There's a preview a bit from the start of this blog. Hehe.

Dahil pangarap niya ito, siya muna.

Quel: Arra... Paayos nga nung dulo.

Pak, Sirena!

Welcome to my kingdom!

Hindi naman niya sinabing gusto niya magka anak ng whale.

When's it my turn?
Wouldn't I love
Love to explore that shore above?
Out of the sea
Wish I could be
Part of that world
♫♪

Ginoogle ko pa 'yan, Awesomes. Hindi ko talaga alam 'yang kanta. Hindi ko pa napapanood ang The Little Mermaid. HAHAHAHAH! Nakita ko lang sa caption ni Arra. At kabisado ni Quel ang kanta! Pinatugtog siya sa café tapos sinabayan niya!

Arra and Raquel, with the giant kabibe ba 'to o shell? And the fish.
The aesthetics look good and right! The lamp above Arra's head makes the light reflect to the ground tapos ayan, mukha nga siyang body of water na may shining, shimmering, splendid (Aladdin pala. Kelan kaya magkaka café Aladdin-themed? Aasa akong may flying carpet doon.)

Syempre, ako ito. Ako lang naman gumagawa ng ganitong mga kalokohan sa mukha ko kapag nag se-selfie. And yes, I am wearing flower crowns! With S kasi dalawa 'yan. Sa isang photo, isa lang. 'Yung white lang.

Arra. Less photos niya ngayon kasi hindi niya ito pangarap. Haha!

Come to me, fish! I am your new Queen! Blueb, blueb, blueb... (Me sounding like I make bubbles out of the water.)

OK, fine.

Oops! My crown fell before this so yes, Imma fix it first.

Me trying to look normal in photos but fails. (Mas marami akong photo kasi cellphone ko 'to. Haha! Mukha tuloy pangarap ko 'to.)

Naks, mukha kaming magkakaibigan.

All in all, I'd rate our Café Mermania experience with four out of five pak points! And by the way, they got you covered with your social media life! They got WiFi for free! Haha!

Stay awesome!

P.S. The outside look of Café Mermania, in case you don't see it as you walk which is kinda impossible to happen unless lumagpas ka na sa Jollibee...

Haha! Yes, fail. Sarado na sila ng panahong ito.
