Were You Scared? [A KaCy (NCIS: Hawai’i) Fanfiction]

Lucy arrives at the NCIS bullpen, coming from being an undercover agent in an underground poker tournament. She then sees Kate sitting on her desk. Kate is such a sight to see after all the work she had to go through that day. But she suddenly remembers their encounter before she left for their case.

She was heading to Kate’s office. Just the usual girlfriend-visits-her-girlfriend thing when she saw her in front of the flag pole. She hurriedly walked toward the blonde who was talking to a brunette who she doesn’t recognize. She’s not from the team.

As she walked toward Kate, she was smiling up to her eyes.

“Hi, Agent Whistler!” the shorter woman greets.

Kate knows that voice very well. She turns around, smiling, “Hi, Agent Tara! Lovely to see you today.”

“I was actually heading to your office but we’ve already crossed paths here.” Lucy then looks at the brunette Kate was talking to few minutes ago.

“Agent Tara, this is Cara.”

Cara beams at Lucy and says, “Kate’s ex-girlfriend.”

Lucy’s eyes grew big. Surprised. She looks at Kate for a second then goes back to Cara. “Oh. I see.” Lucy doesn’t lose her composure. She can’t. Not right now when the girl in front of her, Kate’s ex, looks wonderful. She’s tall. Good skin. Nice eyes. No doubt why Kate fell in love with her.

“Uh, you two have a nice day.” She looks at her watch. “I’m off to our new mission today so I’m heading out,” she shows off a fake smile that Kate is very familiar with while pointing her two thumbs to the opposite direction.

“Lu,” Kate tries to call her but Lucy was already walking away.

“How long have you been here?” Lucy asks Kate who slightly looking at the ceiling as she comes near to the desk.

Kate, startled, smiles at Lucy. Yet the smile is mixed with worry. “Just an hour. Or might be two. Or even three, I guess? I was walking here back to my office then back here to check if you’re already here.” She stands and asks, “How are you? Jesse told me what happened and he said I should just wait for you here.” She reaches for Lucy’s right hand and rubs her thumb, soothing the back of her hand.

Lucy looks at their hands and smiles faintly. She looks back up again to meet Kate’s eyes. “Were you about to run to find me?” She guffaws. “I was about to! And how could you still laugh about it?”

“It was the usual guns and running. But unlike before, yes, the suspect aimed the gun at me and I was alone. Good thing Jesse had a good timing. And the rest, you know, I am here.”

Kate sits on the table, still holding Lucy’s hand. “Uhm. Were you scared? Do you still get scared every time you face the bad guys?”

“Honestly, not anymore. It’s a part of the job I signed up for one foot is always in the pit.” She looks at Kate intently. “But… there was something that got me scared today.”

Kate’s face has a lot of questions. “When?”

Lucy starts to take a deep breath in. “It was when I saw you earlier today before we drove off to the underground poker mission.” Lucy walks closer to Kate who is still sitting on the desk. Their eyes are now of the same level. “When you were with Cara.”

“Lucy, I…”

“I don’t really get insecure but in that moment, I was. I guess the right word to describe how I felt aside from scared was, I was in turmoil.” Lucy explains while she looks at the ground and back at Kate’s eyes in the middle of her sentences. “I was afraid that I will lose you. Cara, that lady looked wonderful. She got this nice hair, beautiful eyes, good skin, and you’re even of the same height.”

Kate purses her lips to stop herself from laughing over Lucy’s note about the height. She continues to listen to Lucy’s feelings.

“I definitely understand why you liked her. Or probably still like her,” Lucy averts Kate’s eyes by looking sideways. “Like, who am I compared to her? What do I have which she doesn’t when it seems

“I love you,” Kate blurts out cutting Lucy off.

Lucy stops from speaking and suddenly looks at Kate. She swallows. She tries to speak. She opens her mouth when…

“That’s something you have which Cara doesn’t.” Kate looks away and takes a deep breath. She lets go of Lucy’s hand and starts to stand up from the desk, walking away from Lucy. “I realized, I forgot something from my office. Let me just get it and, uh, I’ll see you in the car?”

Kate starts to walk when Lucy pulled her back, swinging her back in front of her, and kisses her lips. The kiss is light, but Lucy starts to pull Kate closer, tugging her waists. Kate places her right hand on Lucy’s neck.

“You can’t just drop a bomb like that and walk away, Whistler,” Lucy says smiling with her forehead touching Kate’s, both of their eyes still closed.

Kate awkwardly giggles. She purses her lips. As she opens her eyes, she looks at Lucy and says, “You don’t have to say it back. I just wanted to let you know how I feel.”

Lucy kisses her again. “Then why the need to walk away, babe?”

Kate smiles on the endearment. “I just… I just don’t say those words too quickly. As quick as after one official date. But with you” Kate is cut off by Lucy’s lips. Lucy brushes her lips against Kate’s.

“Sorry, you were saying? But with me?”

“But with you, it felt easy.” Kate smiles at Lucy. Lucy’s hands are still on Kate’s waist while Kate’s right hand is on top of her chest, just below her shoulder. “And you know what? Kissing is really a good technique

Lucy kisses Kate again. And both of them giggled in between.

“… to shut someone up.” Kate enthuses. “I should’ve just done that when you were rambling about Cara earli

Lucy once again kisses Kate. “Then we won’t be having this moment if you did that.”

“Maybe. We’ll never know.” Kate smiles sweetly at Lucy. Giving her a light peck on the lips but Lucy pulls her closer.

“I love you, Kate.” Lucy clips Kate’s hair to her left ear.

“You do?” Kate couldn’t help but to smile.

Smiling, Lucy confirms. “Yes, I do.”

Kate hugs Lucy and kisses her forehead then rests her chin on top of the shorter girl’s head while her other hand plays with Lucy’s curls. Lucy hears the DIA agent’s heartbeat. It warms her heart. It makes her happy to know that Kate loves her, too.

Lucy tilts her head up. “Did you really forget something in your office or can we now go to the car so we can continue this at your place?”

“We can go straight to the car.” Kate laughs as she tugs Lucy to walk and leave her desk.

I imagined these scenes as I learned about the sneak peek for episode 11! May we only have light angst but yes, I want to see a jealous Lucy Tara!
