I’ve heard Boyong’s for so many times before seeing the place. It’s definitely one of the famous places where you can eat in Marikina. Aside from Lilac, there are other places where you and your loved ones can munch or eat over. A place that doesn’t have to be instagrammable for you to head on to. Because you know, some food places sell their place, the ambience, the way they look and not their food. Most of the time, instagrammable places have costly food, small serving, and the taste? A total meh.
Raquel was about to buy a bike yesterday and as a good friend, I accompanied her. After we finished choosing her new ride, I called Arra. Very spontaneous, no plans at all. We head out to where she was and then she suggested we head to Boyong’s.
L-R: Raquel, Arra, and Thea
Thea: Saan ka? (Where are you?)
Arra: National Book Store!
Raquel: Bakit siya nasa NBS?! Estudyante ba siya?! (Why is she at National Book Store? Is she a student?!)
Thea: ‘Yung stand alone? ‘Yung Malaki? (The stand alone NBS? The big one?)
Arra: Oo. Sa Q Plaza. (Yup. In Q Plaza.)
Thea: Punta ka rito. Bayan. Magkasama kami ni Raquel. Ay, kami na lang pala pupunta d’yan! (Come over Bayan. I’m with Raquel. Oh. We’ll just go there to meet you instead.)
Arra: Anong gagawin natin? LALAMON?! (What are we going to do? EAT OUT?!)
*Me inside: Makikipag kita lang, paglamon na agad nasa isip nito.* (We are just asking to meet up and the first thing in her mind is we are just gonna eat out again.)
The place was definitely jam-packed! It was a Saturday. For the three of us, it was our first time to be there. They both said they friends have been planning to go there because it’s cheap yet fulfilling. It’s always full. We almost weren’t able to get a table. And true to the gossips, the serving per plate was quite good and more than enough!
If you know me, I am very much picky when it comes to food (that’s why I am hard to date, LOL, kidding!). I always order the usual, nothing extra ordinary. But last night, I picked the Pasta Aligue. I love crabs, I swear!
Arra ordered Tuna Pasta and a Grilled Chicken Sandwich while ‘Quel had Spaghetti and Grilled Burger with Cheese. We also took Fichito – Fish, Chicken, and Potato. How British, eh? I know we all just wanted some fries however, there was no separate fries on the menu. Pitcher drinks were already sold out and we all opted for service water. They have plenty of ice and that made it awesome! (Healthy living!) Oh, we also had three pieces of pork barbeques on stick.
I can only judge those I have eaten so here they are!
Pasta Aligue:
I was excited to taste it at the very beginning. It really tasted like aligue! It seemed like I was eating crabs. However… the sauce was way, way too over powering. It was too much. It felt like my pasta was drowning… with the sauce. After two rolls of the pasta, as in two, or maybe that was three, I already felt “umay” (fed up? Is there even an English for umay?!). I was looking for calamansi but it was already sour so I just munched on my barbeque. I know. I shouldn’t have consumed all of my bread but I can’t help it! The bread was good! But I was still able to eat my pasta but I wasn’t able to finish it. Only half. (Raquel said something I was a little puzzled. She said the pasta was not absorbing the sauce, something like that. I wasn’t able to comprehend because, does pasta do that? They absorb the sauce so they will taste like the sauce?)
The barbeque tasted like the normal barbeque. But it was really meaty! Only the last one has the fatty part.
FiChiTo, FiChiTo, dami-dami nito.
The fries was awesome! It didn’t taste like the fast food ones. It’s like the kanto fries (street fries) but not. The texture was very different. I can’t explain it, haha! Then the three sauces accompanying the Fichito were great, too, but I loved the mayo. Arra loved the barbeque sauce.
I didn’t eat much of the fish and chicken. Only bite-sizes.
Arra's Tuna Pasta
Raquel's Spaghetti
It seemed the Pasta Tuna was good. Arra was able to finish it and also, Raquel seconded that it tasted good. It was spicy, though.
They both said the servings of their sandwich and burger more than what they expected, especially the chicken sandwich. It was thick! (I wasn't able to take photos of those.)
Prices of our orders:
Pasta Aligue – PHP115.00
Tuna Pasta – PHP125.00
Spaghetti – PHP95.00
Grilled Chicken Sandwich – PHP65.00
Grilled Burger with Cheese – PHP40.00

The place had no air con but it wasn’t humid. It was comfortable with electric fans alone. Some chairs are stools so they don’t have something to support your back – those at the middle. They have a restroom, too. With a bidet, mind you.
How to get there:
If you are coming from Cubao, you may ride a jeepney going to Bayan (Marikina Palengke), Philstress, Lamuan, Molave, SSS, Calumpang. Alight at Bayan and ride a tricycle. Tell the driver to drop you off at Boyong’s.
If you are coming from Antipolo, find a jeepney going to Bayan, alight at the clock tower, that’s a big clock at Marikina Sports Center. Find a tricycle and tell the driver to drop you off at Boyong’s.
In short, you have to go to Marikina Palengke also known as Bayan and look for a tricycle.
