Few days to go before we welcome the New Year! What are you up to this New Year's Eve? Kissing someone as clock hits 12? Watching Netflix on your bed or couch or wherever? Kissing your wine glasses and 2017 goodbye? Whatever your plans are, I hope we will all have a blast for the 2018 and make 2017 a lesson, an experience, and most of all, a part of our lives which we may treasure or just keep somewhere, depending on how we view things.
So as the new year draws near, and also because Hyle asked me about my goals this year (which I wasnt able to answer really well because I dont know) I thought of setting some goals which some, I already set them before but I was way, way, too ningas kugon (always good at the start but never gets to end them well because I stop), they all did not happen.
1. Uninstall my Uber App Ride less using Uber and go commute.
Life before Uber was was less expensive. (Haha!) And I always get up early. I even had a 30 minute allowance before the scheduled time. I was 30 minutes early (though I still am. I am even an hour and a half earlier sometimes.) I ride buses, jeepneys, less of trains (because I am not really a train type of girl), tricycles, pedicabs, and I even search for my directions on how to get to the place I dont know. Looking for landmarks instead of streets. I did not grow up commuting to school. I remembered my first year high school circa that I had to commute going to school since my parents opted not to get a school service for me. I kept on asking Tatay how will I get to school and I was nervous as hell. What if I arrive late?
I get lost when I commute, sometimes. I was patient, and all that. I didn't care. But Uber made life more convenient, and more costly. Whenever I see my statement of account, more than 50% of the list is Uber. I would like to change that. But yes, I won't uninstall the app. I might need it for emergencies.
I imitated the text design from a poster I saw while watching Hormones, a Thai series.
I mentally listed that on my imaginary list last year and yes! After two or three days, I stopped waking up early. I really want to jog again. My short-term physical therapist said that she believes the thing with scolio, you should move and move and move. And aside from that, I really want to become active again. I always feel tired. (Kaka computer mo yan at telepono! Ayan!) Work makes me become more stationary unlike before. Sitting on your deck all day. Lunch and restroom brakes are the only ones that change the game. And besides, I remember I bought a pair of kicks so I'd be motivated to run. Might put them to where they should be.
3. Do my back exercises EVERY DAY
2017 was the year I went to the clinic after our annual physical exam, also because of my officemate who also has scolio. I got scheduled for therapy for my dextroscoliosis. The rehab doctor said I have 12 or 13 degrees of curve. I can't remember it right!
My back when I took the Adam's test (bending forward, reaching your toes, in my explanation). My right side of the back is higher. That's where my curve is. Dextro means right. The curve of my spine is on the right.
Though on standard findings, he said my degree curve is still considered as mild. Just like what I said on #2, I had my back therapy. My PT taught me different exercises which again, I stopped after few days of doing it alone. I used to go to the PT three times a week. After six sessions, I decided to stop and just do the exercises alone, at home. I guess it wasn't successful. No. It really wasn't. So for this year, I gotta do this. Baka ito na ang sagot sa pangarap kong tumangkad ako. LOL, as if!
Hello! This was during one of my therapy sessions. Therapy starts with me laying on my tummy then the TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) machine placed on my back then hot compress on top of it. (Tama ba pagkaka explain ko rito?!) This will be followed by my back exercises. I, Y, W, O! (Arm positions)
And this might mean, I gotta wake up early so I can also come to the office early.
4. Go biking again
My bike and my helmet!
One of the things I really like, aside from writing is biking. I miss being an active kiddo who just bikes every afternoon. The kiddo who can't wait to ride her baby (bike, ahem) even under the scorching sun. Wait. That's too much. Not really scorching. Say Hi when we bump into each other on the road!
5. Write more, read more
The main purpose of this blog site was for me to start writing again. May they be nonsense, gibberish, random, and shit. Journals, musings, and so on.
You know what happens when you become a digital slave? You forget your books. I even have almost half of a bookshelf row unread! I'm talking about my Fearless series books which until now, I haven't completed yet. (But I have the complete set of e-books.) Aaaaand, I also have other books which are still in plastic or not yet opened. I miss the old me reading books. My vocabulary is rusty. I started reading Smaller and Smaller Circles then I was clueless of some words. Like, Do these words even exist?
My books kept in the drawer. Most of them are those I haven't opened yet. (Most of these on the photo are classics and, LGBTQIA+ books)
Before, back when I was younger, whenever I read books and context clues aren't helping me, I rush to my bookshelf and look for the dictionary.
6. Go to work early, go home early
Work smart, Awesomes! Stop working hard.
7. Stop Lessen chips intake (INTAKE?!)
I was able to stop drinking soda but I still drink iced tea, occasionally. I hope I can do it with chips. If not totally, just minimizing my consumption. Not eating chips when I am bored, for example.
8. Save better!
My stash for this year.
Millennials should save, they said. Well, even if you aren't a millennial, you still should. Sometimes, I am thinking what I am saving for. Do you feel that? When you see your hard saved/earned money and you just don't wanna use them? But then, bills go Bling! Bling!
Oh yeah. There's something I really want to buy. Sana mabili ko na siya slash sila this 2018.
Happy 2018 and every year, Awesomes!
